Authors are welcome to submit a book proposal or manuscript in the areas of the arts, humanities as well as the social and behavioral sciences. Work in STEM fields is also of interest. Authors should have a doctorate in their field or a graduate degree appropriate to either their field of research and teaching or a career in an alternative academic environment. While preference will be given to authors holding a faculty position (tenure, adjunct, seasonal, etc.) at a college or university, submissions by independent scholars, professionals in alt-academic careers, postdoctoral fellows, and doctoral candidates will also be considered.
Please note that MacBain & Boyd charges no fees to authors/editors for submission, review, or publication.
Submit your book proposal or manuscript to the office of the Managing Editor in the appropriate format and with accompanying information according to the following details.
Book Proposals
Book proposal submissions should include the following:
Completed manuscripts
Completed manuscript submissions should be accompanied by the following:
Manuscripts should also contain an introduction or preface, text with endnotes (footnotes are strongly discouraged), a bibliography, author/editor biography, (for anthologies, biographical statements of each contributor). All images, graphics, figures, etc., should be sent either within the manuscript document or in a separate document as JPGs with an additional Word document containing appropriate captions.
Anthology collections
An anthology should be a cohesive collection of articles that works together to present a logical and thorough understanding of a particular topic. Articles should work together to build a strong collection suitable for the book’s particular audience(s).
Dissertations
If your manuscript is a revised dissertation, please indicate this in your proposal or in your email submitting the manuscript. Before submitting a dissertation for publishing consideration, read this list detailing effective ways to revise your dissertation.
Containing specialized and narrow research, dissertations must undergo a process to broaden the approach in order to address a larger audience of readers. Research and scholarship in the field of study should be included in order to provide an informed, well-rounded, and accessible work. For a revised dissertation submission, please include the institution where it was defended, date of defense, members of the dissertation committee, and both degree name and department/program of study.
